Leaving your children with someone new can feel like a leap of faith - we get that completely. Whether it’s your first night out in months or you just need a few hours to yourself, it takes trust to hand over the reins.
At The Babysitting Collective, everything we do is about earning that trust. From the moment you get in touch, our goal is to make the process feel personal, calm and seamless - so that by the time one of our babysitters arrives at your door, you already feel confident they’re the right person for your family.
A huge part of that peace-of-mind comes from how carefully we select and prepare our babysitters. A lot of parents may wonder how babysitting agencies vet their sitters. Every sitter who joins The Babysitting Collective is personally met, reference-checked and trained to meet our standards of professionalism, reliability and warmth.
Our Six-Step Vetting Process for Parents in London
Step 1: Application
Each babysitter begins by sending us their CV. We look for real, hands-on childcare experience - nursery work, tutoring, nannying or long-term babysitting - and a genuine enthusiasm for working with children.
Step 2: Questionnaire
Applicants complete a detailed form outlining experience, qualifications and availability. We’re looking for initiative, communication skills and a caring, proactive attitude.
Step 3: Personal Interview
We meet every sitter in person or via video call to get to know them beyond their CV - how they think, how they approach challenges and how they build trust with families.
Step 4: Reference Verification
We contact at least two referees, including one childcare-related reference, to confirm reliability, character and experience in real family settings.
Step 5: Enhanced DBS & Safeguarding
All sitters hold a valid Enhanced DBS certificate. These checks form the foundation of our service.
Step 6: Induction & Code of Conduct
Before taking bookings, every sitter completes our induction and signs our Code of Conduct covering communication, punctuality and professionalism.

Preparing for Your Babysitter
Once we’ve found the right match, we focus on helping both you and your babysitter feel prepared. During your enquiry, we’ll ask questions about your children’s routines, personalities and preferences. Do they have a favourite bedtime story, a particular meal they enjoy, or a school project that needs finishing? The more we know, the more seamlessly the sitter can step into your routine.
Before each first booking, we arrange an introduction call between you and your babysitter. It’s a friendly, informal chat where you can share key details and ask questions. We encourage our sitters to do the same - curiosity and communication are signs of genuine care, and we want both sides to feel at ease before the first shift even begins.
We usually set up a WhatsApp group or email chain including you, your sitter and our team. This is where we confirm addresses, timings and any last-minute details. Once everyone is comfortable, you’re free to liaise with your sitter while knowing our team remains available in the background if needed. We believe clear, ongoing communication is the simplest way to keep things running smoothly and give parents confidence at every stage.
When your babysitter arrives, take a few minutes to help them settle in and get familiar with your home. A quick handover makes all the difference in helping both your sitter and your children feel comfortable.
Start by walking them through the essentials - mealtimes, bedtime, allergies, and anything unique to your household routine. Show them where things are kept, from nappies and pyjamas to snacks or the TV remote.
If your children are old enough, let them take the lead with introductions - showing the babysitter their room, their favourite toy, or what they’ve been working on at school. It helps break the ice!
You’ve shared everything your sitter needs to know, and your children are with someone who’s been personally met, vetted and trusted by our team. Now you can relax and enjoy your evening!

FAQ's
What happens if my regular babysitter isn’t available?
We’ll always do our best to maintain consistency. If your usual sitter is unavailable, we’ll recommend another trusted member of our team who’s already been fully vetted and briefed on your family’s routine.
What areas of London do you cover?
We currently work with families across London, including Fulham, Clapham, Battersea, Notting Hill, Chelsea and the surrounding areas. As our network continues to grow, we’re able to accommodate families throughout most of West and South West London.
How far in advance should I book a babysitter?
We recommend booking as early as possible, particularly for evenings, weekends and school holidays, as these tend to fill up quickly. However, we can often accommodate last-minute requests thanks to our wide network of sitters.
